Yoruba Proverbs and Words of Wisdom

The Yoruba language has a very rich use of words and proverbs. Some of the proverbs in Yoruba language includes (but not limited to) the following:

1. Imu nika, koje ka gbo orun asebi (The nose is wicked, it doesn't have the ability to smell an evil doer)
2. Eje ka dupe feni to woni, to mo niloju (Let us be thankful to a person that gives us an haughty look)
3. An tori oja ja, oja sope talo nja lenkule ohun (We are fighting to save someone, but the person is asking who is fighting at my backyard)
4. Ojo melo la lo laye, ti a si mawa wewu irin (How many days are we going to spend on earth that we will now wear a cloth made of iron?)
5. Ko si bosewu ki omode ni ewu ju agba, ko le ni akisa bi agba (No matter how much cloths a child has more than an elder, he cannot have as many used cloths as an elder)
6. Oju loro wa (Words are spoken with the eyes)
7. Bolode oba ku, ojude re kiru koriko (If the owner of the house is not dead, his backyard will be kept tidy)
8. Bi oju ba farabale, oju a ri imu (If the eyes calm down, it will see the nose)
9. Agba ki n wa loja, kori omo tuntun wo (An elder cannot be in the market to condone a wrong behaviour from a child)
10. Tisu eni ba ta, a n fi owo koje (You don't expose your success or achievement)
11. Bi o ba nidi, obinrin ki n je kumolu
12. Agba to wewu, to koju re seyin, ti koba nle kan, nkan le ni gidi (An old man that has his cloth worn backwards: if he is not pursuing something, then something must be pursuing him)
13. Bi a ba diju keni ibi o koja, eni rere a koja a o sini mo (If you close your eyes because an evil person is passing, you may not notice when a good person is passing as your eyes is closed)
14. Bi oro ba ru ni loju, a n fi lo awon agba (If an issue becomes a puzzle, we should inform the elders)
15. Eniyan fi eje sinu, o tuto funfun sita (Human beings have blood inside then put our spit is white)
16. Oku ki n farapamo feni to ma sin (A dead person cannot hide from the one that would bury him)
17. Oro ti a sope ki baba ma gbo, baba naa yo pari e (The issue that will said a person should not hear of, it is that same person that would resolve it)
18. A ki n tese bo omi, kama kigbe otutu (We cannot step into water and later start shouting of cold feet)
19. Eni a ni kofe ni loju ata lo fi senu, Eni a ni ko kini leyin egun loko sowo, eni a ni ka kofolo alaroki loje (The one we asked to blow dirt off our eyes put pepper in the mouth, the one we asked to watch our back put a spear in his hand, the one will tell our problem is gossiping about us)
20. Ile lota wa, enkule lasebi ngbe (An enemy lives within, an evil doer is often next door)
21. Biku ile o pani, it ode o lepani
22. Ohun ton be leyin eefa, o ju eje lo
23. Bi a ba soko soja, a ba ara ile (If one throws a stone in the market, it might fall on a family member)
